Genera PR is a subsidiary of New Fortress Energy and the new entity responsible for operating and managing the generating fleet of the Electric Power Authority (PREPA).
In January 2023, Governor Pierluisi grants a 10-year contract to Genera PR, through a Public-Private Alliance (PPP), thus continuing the privatization of the country's services as has been done with LUMA in recent years. This contract was negotiated behind the people's backs for almost 2 years.
Both Genera PR and LUMA are companies that do not have the skills or experience necessary to operate the systems they intend to take charge of. Neither contract leads to the transition to renewable energy required by law.
New Fortress Energy under the name Genera PR will boost the consumption of fossil fuels, mainly methane gas.
