El Puente Puerto Rico

Promoting citizen participation for climate change adaptation and justice.

Global warming is perhaps the biggest challenge facing humanity today and its impacts are already being felt locally: stronger storms, loss of beaches, longer droughts, and extreme heat. At El Puente we work to raise awareness about this issue and look for real solutions to address it. We are a non-profit organization that promotes community and youth leadership, fostering the values of peace, equity, and environmental justice. We focus on three main areas: 1) climate education and youth development, 2) community adaptation and preparedness for emergencies and disasters, and 3) public policy and environmental advocacy. We have been pioneers in developing key initiatives, such as the Walk: Puerto Rico in the Face of Climate Change, the radio program and podcast Caring for Creation, the Oasis Energético community accompaniment and adaptation model, and the Artivism Day for Climate Justice.

ELAC was founded by Luis Garden Acosta's vision of linking the social struggles of Puerto Rican communities in the diaspora and in Puerto Rico.
